S2C Practitioner Services | Spelling for Nonspeakers

Initial Assessments

To begin, we meet for a two-hour, individualized session to learn about your family member’s communication and access needs.

During the visit, we observe their strengths and support needs to identify a starting point for one-to-one services. Afterward, we share recommendations and discuss possible next steps with your family.

This visit is not an evaluation of candidacy. All nonspeaking, minimally speaking, and unreliably speaking individuals are presumed capable of meaningful communication. The purpose of this session is simply to gain insight into how your family member best accesses communication so we can offer thoughtful, individualized recommendations.

Following the visit, your 1:1 support staff will share guidance and suggest next steps for ongoing services, based on the individual’s strengths and support needs.

One-to-One Support Sessions

Through these activities, we support participants as they work toward the goals in their Individual Program Plan (IPP).

  • Coaching
  • Modeling
  • Prompting
  • Cueing
  • Positive reinforcement
  • Skill practice

Services help participants carry out activities identified in their IPP.

Parent Coaching & Training

Families play an important role in supporting communication beyond individual sessions. Through coaching and training, we share practical strategies that parents and caregivers can use at home and in daily life.

Together, we explore ways to support communication, encourage independence, and create a welcoming environment for self-expression.

School & Team Collaboration

We work with educators, therapists, and other support team members to help create inclusive learning experiences.

As part of this collaboration, we share observations, discuss progress, and offer practical strategies for school settings. Together, we work toward communication support that is accessible and consistent across environments.
